Gua sha & Cupping
What is Gua sha?
Gua sha is a traditional healing technique widely used in Asia, and one that is becoming more and more used in other countries due to its effectiveness.
Gua sha, consists of using a smooth-edged instrument which is used to “comb” or rub the skin. This action raises transitory petechiae and ecchymosis, similar to the action of cupping but at a more superficial level & covering a larger area. This action pulls blood and Qi into the area and can treat acute or chronic problems, including: pain; musculoskeletal problems; fibromyalgia; severe strain, spasm or injury; as well as conditions like colds, flu, & fever; heatstroke; and respiratory problems such as asthma & bronchitis.
What is cupping?
Cupping is a form of therapy that involves placing cups on the skin to create suction. The suction causes the skin to form bruises which in turn increase the flow of blood and Qi to the area and healing occurs. The cups act like a form of deep tissue massage and can induce deep relaxation and a feeling of well being.
Cupping is also an excellent way to gain release and cleanse your body from excessive buildup. It has been used clinically to reduce pain; assist in post surgical recovery; to provide headache relief and prevention; and to assist in stimulating the immune system.
