For the Atrophic and to some extent Torpor tissue states
Marshmallow leaf has similar energetic properties to the root though they differ a bit, the root being hire in mucilage and the leaf with trace amounts of volatile oils. We would apply the root to the more atrophic state and the leaf to the Torpor state helping to clear toxins and phlegm.
In “The Spirit of Herbs” Tierra connects Althaea officinalis with the Queen of Pentacles. This card is associated as Water of Earth and Emotions directing Senses. In the Ryder Weight Deck a seated mother with a long green veil holding a pentacle can be seen. In the background a flowing river can be seen. Surrounding the mother figure is an abundance of fertility: green lush plants, flowers, a bunny and on the thrown fruit. All these symbols represent the power of water nourishing the earth to produce life.
The actions of Marshmallow harness the power to move and influence water. Mucilage can create a barrier to direct the flow of energy as well as draw or pull energy and move it in a different direction. In the digestive tract this can be seen with drawing water and inducing bowel movements and in the respiratory tract by helping to move phlegm out.
Cautions
Absorption of pharmaceuticals and supplement may be impacted. Time dosage separately.
Growing
A native plant to Europe and Asia this perennial grows well in damp, nutrient dense soil with adequate sunshine. Seeds can be directly sown or the process can begin in starter pots. We would harvest the leaf in the summer during a full moon and the roots are best harvested in the 3rd year during the fall new moon.
